The #1 St. Cloud State University wrestling team (16-0, 4-0 NSIC) will travel to NSIC rival Minnesota State, Moorhead (2-7, 2-3 NSIC) for a dual match in Moorhead, Minn. on Thursday, Jan. 31.

SCSU Wrestling Headlines:
- The Huskies will be looking to stretch their unbeaten streak in 2018-19. SCSU enters the match at Moorhead with a 16-0, 4-0 NSIC record. Most recently, SCSU posted a 42-7 victory over Northern State at Halenbeck Hall on Jan. 24. This will be the lone match for the Huskies this week.
- SCSU received a #1 ranking in the latest NCAA DII rankings and the Huskies have won NCAA DII championships in 2015, 2016 and 2018. The Huskies have also won seven consecutive NSIC championships under the leadership of head coach Steve Costanzo. Eight of SCSU’s wrestlers were ranked in the most recent NCAA individual rankings.
- The Huskies have now won 44 consecutive dual matches dating back to Jan. 14, 2017. The Huskies have also won 57 consecutive NSIC dual matches dating back to an 18-13 loss to Augustana on Jan. 27, 2011. Since that loss, SCSU has won seven consecutive NSIC titles in 2018, 2017, 2016, 2015, 2014, 2013 and 2012.
- Individually, SCSU’s Brett Velasquez (125) and Vince Dietz (197) are both ranked #1 in their
resepective weight divisions in the last NCAA II polls. Dietz is 19-0 this year. Other SCSU wrestlers ranked in the last poll were Garrett Vos (11that 133), Garrett Aldrich (8that 141), James Pleski (3rdat 149), Jake Barzowski (7that 157), Devin FitzPatrick (9that 165) and Kolton Eischens (3rdat 174). - Last year, SCSU posted a 45-0 win over Minnesota State Moorhead at Moorhead.
- Billy Pitzner and Tyree Overton shared first place honors in the 184-pound bracket at the North Country Open on Jan. 26. The tournament was held at Saint John’s University in Collegeville.
- #1 Vince Dietz currently owns a 21-0 record this season with eight falls to his credit. In four seasons at SCSU, Dietz has won 103 career matches.
- Zach Muller placed third at the North Country Open on Jan. 26. He owns a 17-4 record with nine falls to his credit this winter at 285-pounds.
- Senior captain Brett Velasquez is 14-1 this season. He has won 94 matches during his career at SCSU. Velasquez is a three-time NCAA All-American for the Huskies and was the NCAA champion at 125-pounds in 2016.
- Steve Costanzo is in his 13th season as head coach at SCSU. His career record with the Huskies stands at 204-28.
