Dragons Continue NSIC Action This Week with 2 Duals

MOORHEAD, Minn. – The Minnesota State University Moorhead wrestling team continues Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference action this week with a pair of duals. MSUM will compete at Northern State on Thursday (7 p.m. in Aberdeen, S.D.) and will host Mary at 3 p.m. on Sunday.

The Dragons are 5-6 in duals overall and 0-4 in the NSIC. The four losses have come to teams ranked in the top 25 or receiving votes in the d2wrestle.com poll.

MSUM fell to Augustana, 33-7 in a dual on Jan. 29. Junior Blake Bosch won by major decision at 133 for MSUM while freshman Adam Blees also won at 165 to account for MSUM’s points in the dual.

Bosch, ranked No. 2 in the nation at 133 pounds, leads MSUM with a 24-5 record. He has won 16 straight matches. His last loss came on Nov. 21 at the Finn Grinaker Open.

Blees is 12-7 at 165, while junior Garret Hoffner is 13-9 at 157. Junior Nader Abdullatif is 7-6 at 285 for MSUM, while freshman Brayden Kuntz (12-12 at 174) and Austin May (10-10 at 184) are also at the .500 mark for the season.

Kris Nelson is in his seventh season as MSUM’s head coach.

About Northern State
The Wolves are 5-10 in duals overall and 0-4 in the NSIC. They suffered a 29-19 road loss at Southwest Minnesota State on Jan. 28 in Marshall, Minn. Junior Joe Gomez is 17-3 at 197 for Northern while junior Tyler Stenberg is 18-3 at 149. Senior Carson Henry is 10-5 at 133 for the Wolves. Rocky Burkett is in his first season as the Northern State head coach.

About Mary
The Marauders are 5-11 overall and 1-5 in the NSIC. They lost to No. 2-ranked St. Cloud State, 42-3 on Saturday. Freshman Tate Barnhardt is 24-8 at 133 pounds for the Marauders, while senior Travis Smith is 18-8 at 285. Freshman Rudy Guillen is 17-4 at 141 pounds for Mary. Adam Aho is in his third season as Mary’s head coach.
