Vikings improve to 2-0 in NSIC duals with a victory over SMSU

SIOUX FALLS S.D.- Augustana wrestling improved to 2-0 in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference duals with a 27-12 victory over Southwest Minnesota State Friday night at the Elmen Center. The win gives the Vikings a 13-2 record on the season, the loss dropped the Mustangs record to 4-7, 0-1 in the NSIC.

Duncan Stoebner (125 Pounds) got Augustana on the board first with a 3-1 sudden victory over Taylor Curtis. The two wrestlers were deadlocked at one heading into overtime when Stoebner got the takedown early in overtime to secure the victory.

Brandon Charbonneau (141 Pounds) would get another sudden victory for the Vikings. Charbonneau and Cortez Arredondo were tied at four heading into overtime when Charbonneau scored a takedown in overtime to get the win.

Jacob Anderson (149) continued the momentum for Augustana with a first period pin over Paul Norgen. This was Anderson’s third pin of the season.

Shawn Hatlestad (157 Pounds) extended the Vikings lead to 15-3 with a 9-2 decision over Patrick Kelley. Hatlestad had three takedowns during the match.

Mitch Rechtzigel (165 Pounds) gets his first dual win of the season with a 4-3 decision over Kegan Fingalsen. Rechtzigel and Fingalsen were tied at three headed into the third period. Rechtzigel escaped early in the third and secure the victory.

Aero Amo (184 Pounds) continued his dominance with a first period pin over Brody Goens. This was Amo’s 10th pin of the season and improved his dual record to 14-0.

Lane Lettau (197 Pounds) gave the Vikings a 27-6 lead with an 8-5 decision over Ashton Bartlett. Lettau during the match scored a takedown, an escape and four-point nearfall to get the win.

Southwest Minnesota State will host U-Mary tomorrow in Marshall starting at 3 p.m.

The Vikings will be back in action on Sunday as they host University of Mary at 2 p.m.
