The Democrats have secured a majority in the House of Representatives in a blow to Donald Trump, but the Republicans have held the Senate with voter turnout surging.
The Democrats have surpassed the 218 seats required for a House majority by gaining the 23 they required and are on course to take more, allowing them to frustrate legislation that the Republicans try to pass through Congress.
