Matt Riddle Has Signed With NXT, Arquette Backstage at Takeover

Matt Riddle has been in the news quite a bit recently with several different sources reporting on his future in pro wrestling. Riddle is a former UFC fighter who has transitioned into a career in wrestling and has been making a name for himself in promotions such as EVOLVE over the past few years. Although Riddle’s usage and advocacy of marijuana is said to be responsible for a major promotion not signing him, rumors reported over the past few weeks have claimed that both WWE and New Japan Pro Wrestling had taken an interest in signing him to a deal. Speculation on where he’d go intensified after he pulled out of several independent shows that had been scheduled past the weekend of SummerSlam.

In case there was ever any doubt, it appears now that all of the rumors were definitely true after all. During last night’s NXT Takeover: Brooklyn event, Matt Riddle officially made his debut for WWE. Riddle was shown watching the show in the front row of the crowd during the show, and it was later confirmed in WWE’s official website that Riddle has signed a deal with the company and will be competing on the NXT brand going forward. Riddle is the latest in a long list of signings from the independent wrestling circuit to join the NXT roster. Riddle’s work in the wrestling ring has been praised by several fans, and it certainly seems like this is one rising star to look out for as he begins his career in WWE.
David Arquette will always be known by wrestling fans as a former world champion in WCW, but the actor is still a huge fan of pro wrestling. Arquette has even returned to the ring for a few matches throughout the year and may be continuing his career in the industry. Arquette appeared backstage during last night’s NXT Takeover: Brooklyn show and also watched the event in the crowd from the front row for a bit. WWE uploaded a brief interview with Arquette while he was visiting WWE backstage, and he even joked about Universal Champion Brock Lesnar not appearing on SummerSlam tonight.
