Amazing footage shows the moment a big chunk of New York got its power back Saturday night — with huge cheers erupting as the city’s skyline lit up once more.
Illustrator Gizem Vural had been filming the eerily dark views from the balcony of her apartment, with just a few lights radiating from buildings at the edge of the blackout zone or with their own backup generators.
As she scanned her camera across the skyline, lights suddenly flickered back on in tower blocks and skyscrapers.
“Hey!” someone said with a laugh as that section of the skyline lit up — with a chorus of cheers from the streets below clearly heard on the video Vural shared on Twitter.
“And it’s back!!!” she wrote alongside her clip that has been viewed more than 21,000 times, with one viewer, Pulini, tweeting, “That’s amazing the whole city is cheering!”
Vural had earlier shared footage during the blackout — which left some 73,000 residents without power — with Hell’s Kitchen almost completely in the dark, save some car headlights.
