KEIGHLEY COUGARS SAY they will honour the contract of former player Danny Jones.
The Welsh rugby league international died on 3 May as a result of a hereditary heart condition, having collapsed during the Cougars’ League 1 match against London Skolars.
A post-mortem later revealed that Jones, who was 29, had hereditary heart disease which was not picked up by an ECG scan last year.
The rugby league community has rallied around the Jones family and a fundraising page has already collected over £110,000.
The Cougars, a club based in west Yorkshire, have now confirmed that they will continue payments for the duration of Jones’ contract.
A statement on their official Twitter account read: “The club will honour the remainder of Danny Jones’ contract. All payments will go directly to the family.”
