Speaking at his unveiling as OGC Nice interim manager, Didier Digard outlined his tactical philosophy. The former Les Aiglons captain took over from Lucien Favre, who was sacked on Monday.
Digard joined Nice back in 2021, and managed the club’s reserve side. In November, the former Paris Saint-Germain and Middlesbrough midfielder joined Favre’s backroom staff, and he has now made the jump up to become the first-team coach. No timescale has been put on the arrival of a new coach at the club, with sporting director Florent Ghisolfi stating that the club won’t rush the recruitment process.
In the meantime, Digard has the task of kickstarting Nice’s stuttering season. Whilst Ghisolfi played down the pressure for results, the objectives of the ambitious Ineos ownership will nonetheless involve featuring in some form of European competition next season.
Questioned by Get French Football News’ Luke Entwistle on his tactical philosophy, Digard replied, “Ideas are good, but it is applying them that is most important. We’re going to put everything in place so that it is dynamic and ambitious. We really want to have possession of the ball, with lots of runs, lots of effort, and above all, lots of enjoyment.”
