9 ASSE ultras injured as St Étienne & Lyon fans engage in violent conflict

L’Équipe report that a total of nine Lyon and St Étienne supporters were injured on Saturday night during a brief but vicious fight between ultra groups of both clubs ahead of this evening’s Rhône Derby clash at the Groupama Stadium.

The fight occurred at around 22:00 local time in the streets of Lyon, with about 100 St Étienne fans coming across a roughly equal number of OL fanatics. Police had been made aware of the presence of ASSE fans in Lyon city centre before the fight broke out.

Police rapidly intervened, with some ASSE supporters being escorted away from this fight by the authorities and taken to Lyon-Part-Dieu train station.

The outlet understands that a total of 9 St Étienne ultras were injured in this fight, with three being hospitalised as a result. One of these three individuals, a 33-year-old man, is understood to have suffered a potentially grave eye injury. No arrests were made and at the moment no count in terms of injuries on the Lyon side has been reported.

Rapidement alertés, des fonctionnaires de la compagnie départementale d’intervention (CDI), déjà sur place, sont parvenus à mettre en fuite les belligérants. Une partie des supporters stéphanois a quitté les lieux de ce « fight » sous escorte policière avant d’être conduit à la gare Lyon-Part-Dieu.

Toujours selon nos informations, neuf ultras de Saint-Étienne ont été blessés lors de cet affrontement. Trois d’entre eux ont même dû être hospitalisés. Un de ses trois blessés conduits à l’hôpital, âgé de 33 ans, souffrirait d’une grave blessure à un oeil. Aucune interpellation n’a eu lieu. Une enquête en flagrance a été confiée au service de nuit de la direction départementale de la sécurité publique (DDSP) du Rhône.
