Last night, Lyon announced the removal of Sylvinho as manager of the club. He becomes the shortest-serving manager in the club’s history, presiding over the club for just 11 competitive matches.
Gérard Baticle will take over from the Brazilian in the interim.
Speaking in a press release today, Lyon President Aulas and Sporting Director Juninho presented a united front on the decision:
“Yesterday evening, the Executive Committee met and attentively listened to our Sporting Director Juninho. We took the decision to open a procedure to terminate Sylvinho’s contract, including an immediate suspension of his functions. We will soon conduct an exit interview with him ahead of a contract termination… Juninho has our full confidence, that of the Executive Committee’s, and mine. He immediately got to work to offer an interim solution. We have complete support for Juni and we wish to give him the means to continue the beginning of the season in the Champions’ League and overarchingly improve our position in the league table to a place which is more in line with our ambitions and expectations.”
