This wasn’t the morning jolt Phil Mickelson was looking for.

Mickelson made it to Medinah Sunday approximately 40 minutes before his scheduled 11:52 a.m. tee time for the final round of the BMW Championship after lightning struck his hotel and started a fire. He was forced to evacuate the Edgewood Resort & Spa, where his golf clubs were.

“How’s this for crazy? My hotel was struck by lighting, I was on top floor,we were evacuated and the place is on fire(only thing of mine on fire this week.)” Mickelson tweeted about an hour-and-a-half before his tee time. “I can’t get back into my room and may miss my tee time because I am without clubs and clothes.”

Lefty managed to make it to the course before his tee time, and according to ESPN, he changed his shoes in the parking lot, where he swung a weighted club before a brief range session prior to teeing off.

“EMT’s were awesome! I’m going to make it. Turns out my clubs acted as a fire retardant. Lucky me?” Mickelson tweeted.

Mickelson began the day 4-under par — 15 strokes behind leader Justin Thomas — and was 1-over through eight holes Sunday.
