Zaharan Hashim, the leader of National Thowheed Jamaath, a local outfit which is believed to have carried out the coordinated bombings in Sri Lanka on Sunday, was also killed in the explosions.

Sri Lankan president Maithripala Sirisena said that Hashim was one of the bombers who blew up at the Shangri-La Hotel on Sunday. He was accompanied by a second bomber identified as Ilham, believed to be one of the two siblings of a wealthy businessman.
