These $425 Jeans Come Pre-Covered in Mud from Nordstrom

Courtesy Nordstrom

You could spend $425 on so many things: a round-trip ticket to L.A. A fancy hotel room in the city of your choice. A designer pair of sunglasses. Or you could forget all that and pick up a pair of $425 PRPS “Barracuda” jeans at Nordstrom, which come pre-coated in their own mud.

Not convinced? Allow the style description to explain: “Heavily distressed medium-blue denim jeans in a comfortable straight-leg fit embody rugged, Americana workwear that’s seen some hard-working action with a crackled, caked-on muddy coating that shows you’re not afraid to get down and dirty.”

Still not convinced? You’re not alone. People on the internet have been razzing the jeans, giving us flashbacks to Nordstrom’s holiday offering of an $85, leather-bound rock, which got similarly mocked online (but hey, it sold out, so what do we know). Though most of the teasing was good-natured, Dirty Jobs host Mike Rowe was not here for it, writing the following impassioned missive about “our country’s war on work” on Facebook:

Lest you think this is the first pair of pants to provoke outrage on the internet, well, you’d be wrong. Just earlier today, Topshop drew ire for their clear jeans, and last week, Vetements raised eyebrows with its zip-butt pants. And if you thought Rowe was outraged by the price of the PRPS mud jeans, wait until he finds out that Vetements is sellizng their unwearable pants for a cool $1,870.
