Some celebs, like Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, seem to only emerge on the Metropolitan Museum of Art steps every first Monday in May. Others, like Gwyneth Paltrow, have taken a spot on the coveted red carpet every few years for decades. Then there’s Céline Dion. The 49-year-old singer attended her very first gala this Monday, and she made it one to remember — but not in the way you might expect. Unlike many attendees, who pose left and right with their fellow A-listers at the star-studded event, Dion kept a relatively low profile, but still made a major impact. Here, we’re breaking down just why her night was so special, and why she deserves a permanent invitation to the annual event (are you listening, Anna Wintour?).

First things first: her Atelier Versace outfit.

Céline knows that when one makes her Met debut, one needs to make a fashion splash. So the star and her stylist Law Roach (who also works with Zendaya) looked to Versace, who dressed her in a custom silver-and-black gown with a high slit and origami-inspired headpiece. The importance of the look wasn’t lost on her, telling WWD before the gala, “This is like having a job for the first time or having a kiss for the first time — this is big.”

Where to begin! Thanks to this video from Vogue’s Instagram series, we were treated to Céline’s can’t-look-away choreography. From her dramatic crawl to her Angelina-style leg pop to the always classic “shoe-as-cell-phone” move, every moment is better than the last. Can we all agree the star’s dance moves have gone unnoticed for far too long?

Céline skipped out on Kylie Jenner’s group selfie for an even more exclusive mini shoot with the hip-hop group Migos (and at one point the CEO of private equity firm the Blackstone Group and his wife joined in). And that’s it. We can only assume she attempted to take a selfie, but began singing and accidentally broke the mirror with her powerful voice.
