Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez aren’t the only couple to make it official at the 2017 Met Gala. Selena Gomez and The Weeknd (né Abel Tesfaye) made their red carpet debut, stepping out together in their black tie best and huge smiles at fashion prom.
Gomez wore a cream Coach gown featuring small floral embroidery, lace trim and a thigh-high slit teamed with a matching mini handbag and Tiffany & Co. choker necklace. She added a bold bright pink smoky eye and sleek shoulder-length strands to the ensemble. The star’s stylist, Kate Young, shared a close-up shot of the gown’s beautiful detailing and her jewels on Instagram.

The Weeknd went classic in a fitted tuxedo adding a touch of bling thanks to his floral brooch. Last year the singer attended with his then-girlfriend, model Bella Hadid.
Gomez and The Weeknd’s romance flourished not long after he and Hadid abruptly ended their relationship in November, followed by a friendly interaction between the exes at the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show.
This is Gomez’s fourth time attending the iconic night of fashion. Last year, the star went solo to the event wearing a studded white dress and leather bustier designed by Nicolas Ghesquière for Louis Vuitton and chunky high-heeled boots. In 2015, her huge floral headpiece stole the show, while in 2014, the actress went safe in a simple burgundy Diane von Furstenberg gown.
This time last year, Hadid and The Weeknd’s relationship seemed to be going in the same identical fashion as his newfound love with Gomez is right now. He accompanied Hadid, who wore a show stopping black Givenchy gown, to the Met Gala last May and they also showed off some major PDA at Coachella last spring – just like he and Gomez did this year!
Only a few days after Gomez and Hadid’s ex were first caught canoodling at dinner on a date in L.A. mid-January, the model unfollowed the “Same Old Love” singer on Instagram and later posted a photo of herself flipping the bird, which many presumed was a not-so-subtle jab at Gomez.
Hadid and Gomez were never close friends, but that hasn’t stopped the star from holding a grudge against the 13 Reasons Why executive producer for getting together with her ex so quickly.

“Bella and Abel’s split wasn’t dramatic, but of course she’s hurt and pissed that he’s moved on so quickly with Selena,” said an insider, who added that it was Hadid, 20, who ultimately pulled the plug on the duo’s romance.
