WWE SmackDown viewership down for second straight week

Overnight ratings for last night’s SmackDown on FOX saw the show drop four percent in the ratings for the second consecutive week, averaging 2.369 million viewers for the first episode of the show since the Royal Rumble.

FOX finished last among the major networks in terms of total viewers on the night, but SmackDown did beat ABC’s Fresh off the Boat as well as a Road to Fast and Furious special on NBC, which featured John Cena.

In the 18-34 demo, SmackDown averaged a 0.5 rating, up 25 percent from last week. In 18-49, the show averaged the same 0.7 rating that it did the previous week. As it does most weeks, SmackDown topped all network programming in both categories.

Cable TV ratings are not available yet, but it’s likely that ESPN’s coverage of NBA basketball, which featured a tribute to Kobe Bryant and the Los Angeles Lakers’ first game since his tragic death, would be the top rated show on all of TV. The game started as SmackDown was ending, so it wouldn’t necessarily have had any effect on the show’s numbers, though.

Here’s a look at the last 10 weeks of SmackDown viewership and ratings in the key demos:
