3 important points for Verona

Verona win crucial three points in playoff race against Vibo. Piacenza and Macerata grab tough wins against Latina and Forli. Cuneo beat poor playing Modena.

TONNO CALLIPO VIBO VALENTIA – MARMI LANZA VERONA 0:3
Despite a great effort from start to finish, Vibo Valentia had to surrender against a stronger Verona team in the clutch time. Vibo had to make do without captain Simeonov (Marquez substituted him) because of a shoulder injury.

Bruno Bagnoli (Marmi Lanza Verona): “This is a crucial victory for us and our league position. We played to perfection, I am happy with the performance of the players that have come on court”.

BRE BANCA LANNUTTI CUNEO – TRENKWALDER MODENA 3:0
Cuneo proved the Cup final defeat had no effect on their league form as it played brilliantly. A surprising starting six for Modena could do very little against Cuneo and Wijsmans back. The usual starters were back in the second and things got better. Meanwhile Cuneo lost their captain who suffered a slight physical problem at the end of the first set. Whenever Cuneo stepped up, Modena was left without any answers and the third set was one-way traffic. Grbic MVP.

Nikola Grbic (Bre Banca Lannutti Cuneo): "We knew this game could be tough, after a competition like the Italian cup final, which can take the energy out of you, and we also had a midweek game. Still, we got off to a good start and did well to never let Modena in the game. Prandi started without two starters and instead of surprising us, he made it easier”.

COPRATLANTIDE PIACENZA – ANDREOLI LATINA 3:1
Piacenza had the better of Latina in four sets but it was more difficult than expected. Led by MVP Marshall, Piacenza dictated the play in the first two sets. Too many mistakes in the third set helped Latina to come back in game. Thanks to Giombini and Snippe, Latina did well in the fourth too, but Piacenza woke up in the nick of time with a good run of serve from Marshall, which virtually sealed it.

LUBE BANCA MARCHE MACERATA – YOGA FORLI 3:1
Two tight sets before the favourites Macerata regained control, although Forli could nearly have got back in game. The intentions of the guests were clear as they fought hard in dig, while the host made many mistakes in the first set. The  second set seemed to be the carbon copy of the first but at 16 all, MVP Matteo Martino’s run of serves with two aces made the difference. The third set was one-way traffic for the hosts and Macerata initially dominated the fourth too. However, Forli found the resources to get back in it, that is, before wasting an opportunity and handing over the point for a 23-21 score as top scorer Omrcen punished them.

ITAS DIATEC TRENTINO – ESSE-TI CARILO LORETO 3:1
Following its splendid win in the Italian Cup, Trentino keeps it going in the league with a difficult victory over Loreto. The first two sets were unconvincing for Trento: ithey just snatched the first and clearly lost the second. Then, Stoytchev’s boys found their concentration and their game, and took the three points. Leo Vissotto, crucial in the third and fourth set, was named MVP as he scored 17 points (65% in attack).

RPA-LUIGIBACCHI.IT PERUGIA – ARAN CUCINE ABRUZZO PINETO 3:0
Jan Stokr was the MVP in Perugia’s straight set win over Pineto. The guests lasted just one set, then Perugia cruised to victory.

Vincenzo Di Pinto (RPA-LuigiBacchi.it Perugia): “I knew we would win. The boys have controlled the game without trying to humiliate the opponent. On Wednesday in the Challenge Cup, I had already noticed the improvement of the team. We have to keep working this way, that’s what we’ll do this week to prepare the next game against Loreto”.

ACQUA PARADISO MONZA – PRISMA TARANTO 3:0
Monza summed up its third consecutive win for a perfect record of 9 points. Taranto wasted the second set, in which it had a set point at 24-25. Travica did an excellent job serving his teammates but Mauro Gavotto was the MVP, he tallied 19 points with 57% in attack.
