Actress Alyssa Milano holds off on 2020 presidential endorsement

WASHINGTON – Actress and activist Alyssa Milano said she’s “playing the field” when it comes to 2020 Democratic candidates and isn’t ready to settle down and endorse anyone – despite her friendship with former Vice President Joe Biden.

“To be honest with you, I really feel like I’m dating a lot of people right now. I feel like I’m playing the field and I’m dating and once I know who’s going to be right for me I will make that decision,” she told SiriusXM “Press Pool’s” guest host Ted Johnson in an interview that aired Monday.

“I just don’t think it behooves anyone for me to come out so publicly so early,” Milano added.

And while some candidates have already been running for six months, she pointed out how much more there is to learn about the contenders this cycle.

“We don’t know how they’re going to perform at debates – there are so many things we don’t know,” Milano said.

The first set of Democratic debates – which will feature 20 of the 24 candidates over two nights – kicks off next Wednesday in Miami.

“Look, we thought we knew everything about Biden, you know? We thought we knew exactly where he stood. And he came out against the repeal of the Hyde Amendment,” Milano pointed out.

The ex-veep’s campaign had confirmed Biden still supported the Hyde Amendment, which keeps government dollars from funding abortions, with limited exceptions. But after two days of criticism, including from Milano, Biden flip-flopped on the issue in early June, saying he now supports abolishing the precedent.

“Granted, he was able to change his stance,” Milano continued. “When you think about how people have already made their minds up. And that’s a pretty critical piece of information that I think people need to sit with before they make their decision,” she said of Biden’s initial willingness to still support Hyde.

The actress and #MeToo pioneer encouraged Democrats to keep their eye on the ball.

“And I think that we need to stay together and focus on the most important thing, which is getting Trump out of office and you know, if that’s not going to be through impeachment, which it looks like it’s not going to be, then 2020 is really our shot for that,” Milano said on the radio show.
