Border West’s Sykora makes history

ST. PAUL — If Wheaton senior and Border West co-op wrestler Cameron Sykora took over the earth, he’d say he should have taken over the universe.

Sykora became the fifth wrestler in Minnesota high school history to win five state championships Saturday at the Xcel Energy Center. Sykora did it against No. 2-ranked Austin Anderly of Le Sueur-Henderson, who was a two-time state champion.

The Class 1A state championship at 126 pounds capped a 38-0 season and put Sykora at 163-1 in the last four high school seasons. But the 4-3 decision wasn’t enough for Sykora.

“It’s not how I wanted to win,” Sykora said. “I wanted to put points up. I didn’t score enough. I didn’t push the pace enough. I won, but I’m not satisfied with a one-point win.” Continue reading at www.wctrib.com
