The former Selecao star revealed that he had recovered from a bout of “strong flu” after taking ill in the Mediterranean holiday resort of Ibiza
Ronaldo has thanked well-wishers after being discharged from hospital in Ibiza.
The former Brazil, Real Madrid and Inter star was admitted while on holiday after suffering from a bout of “strong flu”.
The 41-year-old, a two-time winner of the Ballon d’Or, paid tribute to the hospital staff who treated him after initially playing down concerns he had a serious case of pneumonia.
In a statement posted on his official Twitter page, Ronaldo said: “Hi all! I’m home after a few days at the clinic. Thank you all for the affectionate comments and positive energy. Thanks to the team of doctors and nurses.
“Now let’s focus on football! This season is going to be awesome.”
Ronaldo had previously thanked fans for their concern after the news of his illness broke, while assuring he would make a full recovery.
“Friends, I had a very strong flu in Ibiza and I had to be hospitalised on Friday but everything is in order,” the legendary Brazil forward had signalled.
“Tomorrow I will be discharged and I will return home.
“Thank you all for your love and your messages!”
Considered one of the greatest players in Brazilian football history, Ronaldo was part of the Selecao’s World Cup winning squads of 1994 and 2002, while his goals also drove the team to a final appearance in 1998.
He remains a firm favourite with fans thanks to his exploits with the likes of Barcelona, Real Madrid, Inter and Milan, although a host of serious injuries and battles with weight gain curtailed his sparkling career.
