Bryan and Styles face-to-face segment set for WWE SmackDown

Before they meet in the finals of WWE’s Intercontinental title tournament, Daniel Bryan and AJ Styles will take part in a face-to-face segment.

WWE has announced that Bryan and Styles will come face-to-face for a segment on this week’s SmackDown. It comes in advance of them facing off in the Intercontinental title tournament finals on SmackDown next week (Friday, June 12).

Bryan vs. Jeff Hardy and Styles vs. Elias were originally supposed to be the semifinal matches for the Intercontinental title tournament, but those were changed after the hit-and-run angle that opened last week’s SmackDown. Bryan wanted to face a new opponent, while Styles wanted to advance to the finals automatically.

Sheamus, who lost to Hardy in the previous round, won a 10-man battle royal and advanced to face Bryan in the semifinals in last week’s main event. Hardy returned at the end of the show and distracted Sheamus. Hardy then attacked Sheamus after the match until he ran off.

WWE furthered the angle by announcing after last week’s show that Hardy “was released from custody by the Orlando police after successfully passing the required sobriety tests, therefore absolving Hardy of the charges of public intoxication, driving under the influence, and the hit-and-run on Elias.”

WWE is advertising that Hardy will share his side of the story on SmackDown tomorrow. Bayley & Sasha Banks will also challenge for Alexa Bliss & Nikki Cross’ Women’s Tag Team titles on the episode, and The Miz & John Morrison will have a warning for Braun Strowman ahead of Backlash. Strowman is defending his Universal Championship against Miz & Morrison in a handicap match at the June 14 pay-per-view.
