The former Blues skipper is considering whether to call it a day and retire from professional football, following a similar path to Frank Lampard
John Terry is considering his next move following a lucrative offer to work as a pundit for Sky Sports, Goal understands.
The 37-year-old chose not to renew his contract with Aston Villa at the end of last season after being hugely disappointed by the club’s Championship Play-Off final defeat to Fulham.
The centre-back has since revealed that he has not yet decided to retire, seemingly with a view to inviting offers for him to extend his playing career.
Chelsea have extended an open offer to Terry that allows him to work at their Cobham Training Ground whenever he wants to, meaning he has regularly spent at least two days a week at his former club.
Terry is also keen on becoming a manager at some point in his career, with the Blues legend having put on coaching sessions with the younger age groups during his visits to Cobham.
He is also continuing his education under the UEFA coaching programme, and the lucrative offer from Sky Sports would seemingly allow him to continue on that pathway.
Goal understands Sky Sports will keep the offer open should Terry decide to retire and move into coaching, where he would be in line to replace Thierry Henry.
The former Arsenal striker announced recently that he would be departing his role as a pundit for the broadcasting company to focus more exclusively on his coaching career.
Terry has been on holiday in Portugal and was also seen paying a visit to Marseille’s training ground having been invited by former Villa team-mate Jordan Amavi.
The ex-England international is regarded as one of Chelsea’s greatest ever players, having won five Premier League titles, four FA Cups, three League Cups, the Europa League and Champions League.
Fellow Chelsea legend Frank Lampard, meanwhile, begins his managerial career with Derby County on August 3 as they face Reading in their Championship opener.
Similar to the offer open to Terry now, Lampard had also been simultaneously working on building up his coaching experience at Chelsea while doing TV work ahead of his Rams appointment.
