New Jersey police are on the hunt for a heartless person who tossed two kittens from a moving SUV over the weekend.
Police were called to the intersection of Route 70 and Massachusetts Avenue in Toms River around 8 p.m. Saturday after witnesses saw a passenger in a red Nissan Pathfinder throw the cats onto the road, according to the Toms River Police Department.
One of the kittens was immediately run over and killed by another vehicle, police said.
The second kitten was briefly rescued by the 911 caller, but the feline escaped into the woods shortly after a photo of it was taken.
The department posted the photo of the visibly shaken white kitten on Facebook.
According to police, the Pathfinder the kittens were thrown from was an older model that was faded red with black roof racks.
Anyone who recognizes the vehicle or who may have witnessed the incident is asked to call Toms River Detective Grosse at 732-349-0150, x1263.
