Disney May Stop Filming in Georgia Over Abortion Ban

Greetings, and welcome to another edition of The Monitor, WIRED's roundup of entertainment and culture news. It's only been two days since our last installment, and man, a lot has gone down. For one, Disney could possibly stop setting up shop in Georgia if the state's anti-abortion law goes into effect. For another, Jessica Jones' third and final season is heading to Netflix in just a few short weeks. Finally, Tom King is working on the script for Ava DuVernay's The New Gods movie. Let's get to it.

Disney May No Longer Film in Georgia Over Abortion Ban

The list of Hollywood productions considering leaving Georgia over the state's new abortion ban continues to grow. Netflix voiced its intentions earlier this week, saying the company would "rethink" filming in Georgia if and when the law goes into effect, and a handful of other directors and creators have also expressed a desire to pull their productions out of the state under similar circumstances. Now it looks as though Disney, which has filmed movies such as Black Panther and Avengers: Endgame in Georgia, may also leave. Speaking to Reuters, Mouse House honcho Bob Iger said it would be "very difficult" to continue working in Georgia if the so-called "heartbeat" law does indeed get implemented on January 1. "I think many people who work for us will not want to work there, and we will have to heed their wishes in that regard," Iger said. "Right now we are watching it very carefully."

Jessica Jones Season 3 Will Hit Netflix June 14

Looks like Jessica Jones is the last one standing. After the cancellations of Luke Cage, Daredevil, The Punisher, and Iron Fist, Jessica Jones is the last of the Marvel shows getting new episodes on Netflix, and now fans know when that final season will air. The streaming service announced earlier this week that season three will launch on June 14 with, of course, all 13 episodes dropping at once. Grab some whiskey and join New York's toughest detective on her final ride.

Tom King Is Co-Writing Ava DuVernay's New Gods

Oh, here's something awesome: Tom King, the Eisner Award-winning Batman writer, is going to be cowriting Ava DuVernay's upcoming film adaptation of The New Gods. King recently helmed DC's comic series Mister Miracle, which was originated by New Gods creator Jack Kirby. No release date has been set for the movie; regardless, it can't come soon enough.

Arnold Schwarzenegger to Lead Stan Lee's Superhero Kindergarten

Hey, remember a while back when Arnold Schwarzenegger was in Kindergarten Cop? Well, now he's about to play a new kind of teacher. The former California governor is attached to star in Stan Lee's Superhero Kindergarten, an animated series wherein he'll play a gym-instructor-turned-superhero charged with teaching the next generation of superheroes. The show was one of the final projects Lee was working on prior to his death late last year.
