Last month, Emily Ratajkowski and Amy Schumer took their political endeavors to the streets, and protested against the nomination of Judge Brett Kavanuagh to the Supreme Court. 

However, people were more concerned about EmRata’s choice to go braless underneath a white crop top than the rights she was trying to protect through her activism, which ultimately got her arrested.    

Speaking with Stellar Magazine, the 27-year-old model reveals she was surprised by how much attention her outfit garnered from internet trolls. 

“I knew being there would be important and I knew some people would find it controversial, but I never expected anyone to talk about why I wasn’t wearing a bra under my tank top,” she told the publication. 

“It was 32 degrees (Celsius), I was marching through D.C. in jeans,” she added. “My outfit seemed completely normal to me. And I was there making a political point. Why would people focus on what I was wearing?”

Immediately following the backlash, Emily’s partner in crime Amy Schumer came to her defense on Instagram. “People are trolling @emrata for not wearing a bra while she got arrested. Well for starters I wasn’t wearing a bra either,” she joked. 

“In the ‘what to wear when being detained for 4 hours on an 87 degree day after a 2 hour march’ handbook. Bras aren’t recommended,” Schumer continued in the caption. “Emily sacrificed herself fighting to protect women’s rights to choose what they do with their own bodies. How about we show her the same courtesy and direct some of that toxic energy to the people who deserve it.” 

Recently, at the #RevolveAwards, EmRata let it be known that she’s not done protesting.

“We just had election day and a lot of people are patting themselves on the back because they voted, but you know, there’s a lot of white men in office, and we tell ourselves that we should call them on the phone, but there are other ways to make change happen that are a little bit more grassroots,” Ratajkowski said while accepting her award for Woman of the Year 2018. 

“I was very sad about Ted Cruz in Texas, but I was happy that more people showed up for midterms than normal,” she commented. “I think we should all be encouraged, but the fight’s never over.”
