'Even A Governor' Can Do It: Cuomo Takes Coronavirus Test Live

NEW YORK — Gov. Andrew Cuomo wants New Yorkers to know that the coronavirus test is so quick and easy that “even a governor” can do it.

The governor got up from his seat during his live daily press briefing on Sunday and had a doctor give him a coronavirus test in order to show people why they shouldn’t be hesitant to get tested.

“That’s it?” Cuomo asked after a doctor in personal protective equipment swabbed his nose. “That’s it. Nothing else.”

Cuomo — who admitted he is personally “not good” about going to the doctor — said that not enough New Yorkers have been getting the tests despite more than 700 testing sites set up across the state.

Most who refrain from getting a test are likely doing so because they are nervous about going to the doctor, he said.

“There is nothing about this test that should intimidate people from not taking this test,” Cuomo said. “It is so fast and so easy that even a governor can take this test.”

In New York, anybody with symptoms of COVID-19 or who has been in contact with a person with the coronavirus can get a test.

Healthcare workers, first responders, nursing home workers, essential workers who interact with the public, people who are quarantined and those who will return to work in the “Phase 1” of the reopening — curbside retail, construction and manufacturing jobs — can also get a test.

Cuomo’s demonstration came as he announced a new partnership with CVS, which will start doing 50 tests a day at certain locations.

In New York City, Mayor Bill de Blasio announced a partnership with CityMD clinics, which will test 6,000 New Yorkers a day across is 123 sites.
