You read it correctly. Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (later Impact Wrestling) is undergoing another name change. It was announced earlier today that the Impact company name will be no more. Instead, the company is going to be rebranded exclusively as Global Force Wrestling. A report from the Tennessean confirms that the company is indeed going to be naming itself after Jeff Jarrett’s wrestling promotion that he founded in 2014. It was recently announced that Anthem Sports & Entertainment had acquired Jarrett’s company, but now they are going to be using the name for their Impact property. It is said to be part of Impact’s attempts to distance themselves from WWE, and to continue expanding as a brand.
Jeff Jarrett’s GFW promotion has been “merged” in storyline with Impact Wrestling ever since April of this year, but now Anthem is fully implementing the company into the Impact company. Though the name is now GFW, the television show on Pop TV is still going to be called “Impact”. The founder of both TNA Wrestling and Global Force Wrestling, Jeff Jarrett, had the following to say: “We’re a global brand. We have partnerships in Mexico, Japan, other places. Collectively coming together, we’ve combined forces and basically the rebrand final touches happen at Slammiversary.” The former Impact Ventures name that the company was using has been officially retired.
Impact Wrestling has gone through tons of “relaunches” over the years, including one from only a few months ago. The company has been known as NWA: Total Nonstop Action Wrestling, TNA Wrestling, Impact Wrestling, and now Global Force Wrestling over its past fifteen years of operation. Anthem Executive Vice President Ed Nordholm said the following: ““One part of our international strategy is not just to take WWE-style ‘Impact’ and export it to other countries, but as well to more deeply penetrate those international markets in association with (wrestling) promotions that are centric to those markets. The (international promotions) want to tap into our expertise to boost those shows, but also to in turn boost the GFW content.” The relaunch will be official as of the Slammiversary pay-per-view this Sunday, for more information visit Tennessean.com.
