TEHRAN, Iran — Iranian leaders Friday vowed “severe revenge” in response to the U.S. airstrike near Baghdad’s airport that killed Gen. Qassem Soleimani, the head of Iran’s elite Quds Force and architect of its interventions in the Middle East, and sharpened tensions throughout the region, The Washington Post and other news outlets reported.
