The rumours of Kylian Mbappé intending to leave Paris Saint-Germain in January have gone quiet after the player appeared in front of the media following their 1-0 win over Marseille on Sunday to confirm that he had never asked for an exit.
However, according to L’Équipe, Mbappé did not voluntarily decide to appear before the media and clear the air around his future, but it was a planned act pulled off the Parisien club.
The report suggests that they initially sent PSG sporting director Luis Campos to deny those claims of Mbappé asking to leave the French club in the winter transfer window.
One hour before the Champions League game against Benfica, Campos said, “I am with Kylian every day. He never asked me to leave in January. And I was with the president (Nasser Al-Khelaifi), and he never asked the president to let him leave in January. That means it is not a player statement.”
Despite these comments, the speculation around Mbappé’s future at PSG had no hint of slowing down. Therefore, PSG chose to send the player to address his future after the game against Marseille.
It is confirmed that the 23-year-old Frenchman did not have direct talks with Al-Khelaifi, but the player was informed beforehand that he would have to deny the reports.
Having agreed to the club’s demands, the striker said, “My entourage was at my little brother’s game. All the people who take care of me were not there. So we were flabbergasted when we learned about it (the reports).” As confirmed by the French outlet, it is indeed true that both of his parents were attending a Youth League game to see his brother, Ethan Mbappé, play in Saint-Germain-en-Laye.
