Kylian Mbappé reacts to PSG’s Coupe de France win against amateurs: “We came to respect them.”

Speaking to the media after registering his first career quintuple, Paris Saint-Germain forward Kylian Mbappé was keen to stress that he and his teammates were intent on showing amateur side Pays de Cassel respect, in their 7-0 win to book at spot in the Coupe de France last 16.

The French forward struck a quick-fire hat-trick in the first half before adding another two after the break. The win is a welcome return to form for Christophe Galtier’s men, who have started the year with successive away defeats in the league – including one in the very stadium they won in on Monday night, having suffered defeat to Lens at the turn of the year.

As PSG look to reclaim their Coupe de France title, next month’s last 16 tie sees them travel down to Marseille for the headline clash of the round, with Kylian Mbappé relishing the challenge ahead:

“We came to respect this team and we’re very happy that we’re through. It’s a great opportunity for them but also for us – we also came from amateur football and we were able to retain the values that brought us to the highest level. We’re very happy to be carrying on in this competition which is important for PSG. The last 16 match against Marseille will be a true cup match, which we’ll do our best to prepare.”
