Listen to Episode 5 of ‘Gang’s All Here’: Jets Hit Rock Bottom feat. Keyshawn Johnson

Brian Costello opens the show discussing the Jets hitting rock bottom after losing to the Dolphins on Sunday. What was the feel in the locker room after the game?

NY Post columnist Steve Serby joins the show from Miami to talk about the future of Adam Gase, what the Jets do next and how the rest of the season could play out.

Former Jets Pro Bowl receiver Keyshawn Johnson then joins Brian and explains why Gase needs to go, what is wrong with the Jets and why Christopher Johnson needs to give him a call to help fix the franchise.

Johnson on Adam Gase:

Johnson: I just don’t get the Adam Gase situation. He’s a nice guy. I don’t think he’s the guy for the job. I think they overreached, whoever made the decision to hire Adam Gase, whether it was Maccagnan or Mr. Johnson at the time. I think they dropped the ball on that one. There’s more people out there in the coaching world. There’s better options. If they’re looking for a guy to take Sam Darnold to the next level, then it’s not Adam Gase. What credentials did he really have? You always scratch your head on these guys. Oh ‘Peyton Manning says he’s the guy.’ And? You all act like Peyton Manning is god’s gift to football. That doesn’t mean anything because Peyton Manning signs off on him. It’s ridiculous. You can’t hire a guy based on Peyton Manning signing off. That’s crazy to me. It makes no sense. I could have picked 25 coaches that was qualified over Adam Gase to be the next head coach of the New York Jets. You’re going to pick Adam Gase over Mike McCarthy? That doesn’t make any sense to me. Unless he’s got some skeletons in his closet nobody knows about…why would you do that?

Johnson on Christopher Johnson needing to call him to help fix the team:

Johnson: If Christopher Johnson wanted to have a conversation, we could have a real conversation about let’s turn the Jets around. I can help him do the right thing, him and Joe Douglas. Guys like me…we don’t get that opportunity. How about giving me the opportunity to…call me Mr. Johnson. Let’s talk. We just need to talk. I don’t even want the job. I’m enjoying ESPN…but let’s talk. I promise you I can tell you some stuff that will get ya’ll to the playoffs in the next couple of years. You just got to know what you’re looking at. We just want to talk…nothing major, just talk.

Johnson on Rich Kotite:

Johnson: In 1996, we didn’t respect the coach as a team. Richie Kotite, we didn’t respect him. It just didn’t work. You look at Richie Kotite, he was on the field in practices on the other field holding a cell phone, talking on it and smoking a cigar…in the middle of practice. It’s like…wow. That ain’t it. You’re not going to win games doing that. So there was no real respect for Richie Kotite. He lost the team before you blink an eye.
