MANKATO, Minn. — The 18th-rated Minnesota State wrestling squad embarks on its first duals of the season this weekend as it squares off at Minot State today (7 p.m.) and at the University of Mary Saturday (1 p.m.).
This is MSU’s first NSIC action of the season. The team has competed in four different open tournaments. The Mavericks are led by top rated Cody Quinn at 165-weight class and fourth rated Alphonso Vruno at 141-weight class.
Many young freshmen showed they could handle the college circuit in the opens earlier this season to show they deserve a spot in the lineup including: Trevor Schultz, Tanner Mills, and Darick Vancura.
Sophomore Scott VanDeLoo will get his second career start as he finished the open season with one third-place finish and two fourth-place finishes.
