L’Équipe report that Ligue 1 duo Strasbourg and Nantes remain interested in signing 28-year-old Ghanaian forward Majeed Waris from Porto next month.
Under contract with the Portuguese side until 2022, he has not played at all this season because the current coaching staff have frozen him out. The player is looking to get out of there as quickly as possible, but not just to any old destination: all offers from Spain, Turkey and the Middle East have already been rejected.
The player’s agent confirmed that he wants to return to France: “France is our priority, because Waris knows this league very well. At this time, clubs are looking for players who do not need much time to adapt.”
At Nantes, negotiations are ongoing between all the relevant parties and Waris’ entourage is hopeful that a deal will be concluded imminently: “Negotiations have begun. We want to finalise this transfer quickly so that Waris is ready when the league starts again.”
Porto’s condition on a deal is that the buying club pays 60% of the €5m transfer fee that they are demanding immediately, with the rest coming in instalments. This was a similar sum to what they demanded in summer, which Nantes were reticent about paying and which collapsed the deal.
