NDSU’s Tyler Lehmann Named WWC Wrestler of the Week

OREM, Utah – North Dakota State University 197-pound redshirt freshman Tyler Lehmann (Fargo, N.D./West Fargo HS) has been named the Western Wrestling Conference Wrestler of the Week after an outstanding performance on the mat last weekend. The conference honor was announced Tuesday, Feb. 11 by the league.

Lehmann continued his impressive string of wins by fall in a pair of NDSU conference dual victories over the weekend. The Bison redshirt freshman began the weekend by pinning Utah Valley’s Derek Thomas in 4:10 in North Dakota State’s 33-11 dual win at UVU on Feb. 7. Two days later, Lehmann won by fall over Northern Colorado’s Cole Briegel in 5:26, sealing a 28-11 dual victory for the Bison.

With the two victories, Lehmann improved to 11-2 overall and 7-1 in duals in his first season of competition for NDSU. Ten of Lehmann’s 11 wins have come by fall this season and he has also scored 42 team points eight dual appearances. The 20th-ranked Bison now lead the WWC with an unblemished 3-0 league record.

The conference honor is Lehmann’s first of the season and first of his career.

NDSU will travel to Columbus, Ohio, this weekend to wrestle at the NWCA National Duals on Feb. 16-17.
