Italian giants AS Roma have completed the signing of Lyon captain Maxime Gonalons for a fee of €5m. The 28-year-old has penned a four-year contract and leaves OL after seventeen years with the club.
Gonalons began his career in the youth sides and progressed through each rank before being named the captain of the first-team. Since then, the Frenchman has made 241 appearances in the white and blue shirt, winning seven international caps in the process.
The midfielder spoke one last time to Lyon’s media, “I spent 17 years with my favourite club. I discovered everything. This club gave me everything, made me grow as a man and as a player. I owe them everything.”
Gonalons subsequently turned his attention to his new venture, saying, “After speaking with Monchi and the coach about their ambitions, I did not hesitate for a moment. Everything was agreed very quickly, I cannot wait for this adventure.”
“Maxime is a footballer of international stature. In addition to his technical ability, we are delighted to add his experience and personality to our group,” AS Roma’s new sporting director Monchi said.
