Para Commando Falls 6,000 Feet To Death After Parachute Fails To Open

A para commando of 1 Para Regiment was killed on Friday morning while carrying out a free-fall jump in an ongoing refresher training programme at the para dropping zone here, after his parachute failed to open.

Lance Naik ​Sunil Kumar (27) was posted at Nahan base of 1 Para Special Forces in Himachal Pradesh and had come to Agra for the three-week training programme. According to Army sources, after jumping from an AN-32 transport aircraft at a height of 6000 feet, Kumar’s main parachute’s lines got tangled, and he couldn’t cut through to open the reserve parachute on time. The incident occurred at Malpura para zone at around 11am.
