Luan Peres, 6 – Improving every game after a shaky start in France and this was another composed performance. It was his searching long ball that assisted the second for Harit.

Pol Lirola, 6 – A useful and versatile option for OM and it was his near post ball that found Dieng for the opener.

Pape Gueye, 5

Mattéo Guendouzi, 7 – Used a little deeper in midfield than previously this season and posted an unusually measured and assured display but in typically physical style. Won and used possession productively throughout, a real driving force.

Cengiz Ünder, 5 – Worked hard throughout but failed to have much an impact creatively but did provide one cute low cross from which Payet, sliding in at the near post, probably should have scored.

Konrad de la Fuente, 3 – A disappointing display after a thrilling start to his OM career before oddly dropping out of the side in recent games. Unable to find the space to affect the game from his flank and was largely anonymous as a result with most of OM’s attacks focused elsewhere.

Bamba Dieng, 7 – Should have had more than just the one. A close range early header was perhaps just as presentable a chance as the one he scored from just after half time before he fired right at Gomis when put through by Payet. His astute movement, however, provided a constant threat and one such darting run resulted in the opener.

Dimitri Payet, 6 – Far from his unplayable best but played with characteristic nonchalance and combined well with Dieng in the first half especially. He probably should have opened the scoring sliding in at the near post.

Others: Kamara 5, Harit 7, Gerson 5, Rongier 5.

 

RENNES – 0

Alfred Gomis, 4 – Made one good save from Dieng when effectively one-on-one but should have prevented Harit’s second after a weak shot slipped underneath him.

Hamari Traoré, 4 – No major issues on his flank form a variety of potential threats until he, along with Badé, was bamboozled by Harit for the second.

Loïc Badé, 3 – Arguably at fault for both Marseille goals. He failed to pick up Dieng, who’s sharp run across him to the near post afforded the OM striker the space to poke home the opener before he became one of two defenders outmuscled by Harit, albeit with the aid of a lucky ricochet, for the second.

Baptiste Santamaria, 4

Lesley Ugochukwu, 3 – A talented young player but seemed a little overawed at the Velodrome when confronted with Guendouzi, Payet and Gueye.

Flavien Tait, 5 – Had a quiet first half but grew into the second half as OM forged ahead and Rennes searched for inspiration, did just about enough for a 5 in the end as one of few Rennes players to show some ambition.

Benjamin Bourigeaud, 3 – No real impact on proceedings, close to anonymous.

Serhou Guirassy, 4 – Very little service overall but was unable to take advantage of his only major opening, although it was a slightly awkward one, when arriving at the back post in the first half.

Gaëtan Laborde, 4 – Momentarily unbalanced the OM defence on a couple of occasions in the first half, setting up his side’s best chance for Guirassy but faded after half time in a meek Rennes performance overall.
