Pokorny Ranked #1 in Nation at 133-pounds

St. Cloud State University senior Andy Pokorny will enter post-season competiton as the number one ranked wrestler in the NCAA Division II at 133-pounds. Pokorny move up to the top spot in the polls released on Feb. 24. As a team, the Huskies maintained their status as the number three ranked squad at the NCAA Division II level in the national poll.

The Huskies (19-1, 8-0 NSIC) charted 146 points in the recent poll, while Notre Dame (Ohio) continued its top ranking with 158 points and defending national champ Nebraska-Kearney was second at 151. This is the final regular season poll that will be released by the Division II Wrestling Coaches Association.

Four regional qualifying tournaments are on tap this weekend, with No. 11 Pittsburgh-Johnstown set to host the East Super Regional, Lake Erie (Ohio) the Midwest Super Regional, No. 4 Central Oklahoma the Central Super Regional and No. 18 Colorado Mesa the West Super Regional. The NCAA Division II Wrestling Championships are set for March 14-15 in Cleveland, Ohio.

Individually, Pokorny (11-0 in 2013-14) moved up to the number one spot at 133-pounds after spending much of the 2013-14 campaign ranked second in the polls. SCSU freshman Austin Goergen also moved up a spot in the poll and is now ranked second in the nation at 285-pounds. He gained the top spot in the latest NCAA Division II Most Dominant Wrestler standings last week and will bring an impressive 25-4 record in the regional, which includes a team-high 13 pins.

At 141-pounds, sophomore Matt Nelson is ranked fifth in the country with a 9-5 record and sophomore Clint Poster is ranked fifth at 157-pounds. Poster owns a 24-5 mark in the SCSU singlet this season.

The two-time defending NSIC champion, St. Cloud State is the three-time defending NCAA Division II Super Region 3 champion and a three-time runner-up at the NCAA Division II championships in 2011, 2012 and 2013.
