Even as India is set to introduce more stringent car safety standards in 2019, car makers continue to sell ‘inferior’ vehicles to the public. Case in point, the Renault Kwid. Sold across the world and in India, the car has been crash-tested with disappointing results.

In 2016, Global NCAP tested an India-spec car that managed a Zero star crash rating out a possible five. The car was tested three more times and on the final attempt that year, with a driver’s side airbag, scored a single star rating. Nothing great, but it showed Renault was ready to make amends.
