Republican PAC airs ad showing AOC’s face on fire during Democratic debate

A Republican-affiliated political action committee aired a controversial TV ad during the Democratic primary debate that showed a picture of freshman Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez burst into flames.

The PAC, New Faces GOP, was created by former California Republican congressional candidate Elizabeth Heng and aims to “elevate the next generation of Republicans,” according to its website.

In the ad, which is narrated by Heng, a photo of Ocasio-Cortez combusts into flames as Heng says, “This is the face of socialism.”

“Does Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez know the horror of socialism?” Heng adds in the commercial as a photo of skulls in a Khmer Rouge death camp in Cambodia are shown.

“My father was minutes from death in Cambodia before a forced marriage saved his life. That’s socialism: Forced obedience. Starvation.” Heng says in the ad.

“Mine is a face of freedom, my skin is not white, I’m not outrageous, racist, nor socialist. I’m a Republican,” she says.

Ocasio-Cortez responded to the commercial on Twitter, writing: “Republicans are running TV ads setting pictures of me on fire to convince people they aren’t racist. Life is weird!”

She added that she thought the ad was designed to appeal to white supremacists.

“Know that this wasn’t an ad for young conservatives of color — that was the pretense,” she wrote. “What you just watched was a love letter to the GOP’s white supremacist case.”

Some Twitter users rushed to Ocasio-Cortez’s defense — and slammed ABC for airing the controversial ad.

“You aired an ad that puts a sitting US Representative’s life in danger. #Accountability,” one Twitter user wrote.

Why would abc allow this ad on tv? Oh yeah they’re a for profit business and don’t care about the safety of AOC,” another added.
