Following up on an earlier posting to this site in the last week, the expected drug suspension of 7th place Boston Marathon women’s finisher Lyubov Denisova has come to pass. The IAAF has imposed a two-year ban on the 35 year-old Russian runner.
In addition to the positive A & B samples (for an elevated testosterone to epitestosterone ratio) it was also revealed trace amounts of the anabolic compound Porstanozol was also found.
The Nike athlete is ineligible to compete through April 26, 2009. In addition, all results since the date of her drug test on March 20 have been expunged. During that time Denisova won the More Magazine Half Marathon Relay (NY); the Cooper River Bridge Run 10K (SC) where she placed 7th; and the B.A.A. Boston Marathon, where she also placed 7th and won $9K.

Elite female marathoners from Boston now move up a spot from places 8 thru 16. California’s Kelly Flathers -who went home with a goose egg after placing 16th in 2:43:25 – now moves into the 15th position and will receive $1.5K.
