Sharon Stone has revealed that job offers dried up following a brain haemorrhage because she was seen as a "broken person" in Hollywood. 

The American actress revealed she was given a five per cent change of survival after she suffered a brain haemorrhage in 2001 and had to re-learn "everything" as a result of the ruptured blood vessel.

The 59-year-old said acting jobs dried up following her recovery because she believed she was considered to be a "broken person".

Stone made the comments during an interview ahead of her TV return in Steven Soderbergh’s murder mystery series ‘Mosaic’ later this month. 

"There was about a five per cent chance of me living. My whole life was wiped out," she told US network CBS.

"Others aren’t that interested in a broken person. I was alone."

Stone, who became a household name after starring in the 1992 film Basic Instinct alongside Michael Douglas, also suggested she had been a victim of sexual misconduct in the past. 

She won a Golden Globe and an Oscar nomination for her role in Martin Scorsese’s 1995 crime drama Casino.

Commenting on the current wave of sexual harassment allegations sweeping the industry, Stone said she had "seen it all" during her time in Hollywood.

When asked whether she had ever been put in an uncomfortable position, the actress laughed, saying "I’ve been in this business for 40 years".

"Can you imagine the business I stepped into 40 years ago? Looking like I look, from Nowhere, Pennsylvania?" 

She added: "I didn’t come here with any protection. I’ve seen it all."

Her comments follow a number of allegations against high profile figures within the industry such as Harvey Weinstein, James Franco and Kevin Spacey. All three have denied allegations of sexual misconduct.

Last week actors and actresses, including Meryl Streep, wore black to the Golden Globe Awards as a "silent protest" against the spate of sexual harassment scandals that have hit Hollywood. 

A number of celebrities have donated to the #TimesUp initiative to provide voices and support to those who speak out against sexual misconduct.  

Stone has previously described her near-death experience following her brain haemorrhage recalling last year that she saw a "giant vortex of white light". 

She then "returned" to her body with a "whoosh", she said, after going on her own "journey to the beyond".
