Shooting Near Dartmouth College Leaves 19-Year-Old Hurt

HANOVER, NH — Police are investigating a shooting near Dartmouth College in Hanover that left a 19-year-old in the hospital. The man was shot jsut before 10. p.m. Friday on a sidewalk outside the Christian Science Reading Room on School Street, the college said in a statement. The shooting prompted a “large police response” from multiple law enforcement agencies, including state police.

The Ivy League school issued a shelter-in-place order around 1- p.m. Friday and lifted the order around 12:45 a.m. Sunday. Police also looked into several reports of gunfire elsewhere in Hanover, but found nothing.

The victim, who has no connection to the college, was taken to Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in stable condition. His name wasn’t immediately released.

The shooter was not apprehended as of Friday night. An investigation remains ongoing.
