As reported by Reuters, Spanish prosecutors have this Friday dropped all charges of fraud and corruption against Paris Saint-Germain forward Neymar, in a trial over his 2013 transfer from Santos to Barcelona.

Charges were also dropped against the other defendants including former Barcelona president Sandro Rosell, who had insisted that there had been no fraud against DIS, the Brazilian investment company which held 40% of Neymar’s rights at the time. DIS could continue to pursue their claim.

Prosecutors were initially calling for a two-year prison sentence and €10m fine for the Brazilian, which have now been dropped, as has been the case with the accusations against Barcelona, Santos, and the N&N company held by the Neymar family.

The Brazilian international was in attendance last week to testify that he had no knowledge of negotiations regarding his transfer, which he said were led solely by his father. The 30-year-old had also explained that he had chosen to join Barcelona as it had been his childhood dream to join the Catalans, a statement backed up by Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez, who indicated that an offer from Los Blancos had been turned down by the player’s entourage back in 2011.
