1) Democrats don’t think much of Trump’s bipartisan pitch
If Donald Trump was hoping for a wave of appreciation from his widely-briefed reach across the aisle during the State of the Union, he will be disappointed.
A sign of things to come was there within seconds of the president entering the chamber as dozens of Democrats remained seated and refused to applaud.
That became a running theme of the night – Democrats looking stony-faced as Republicans jumped to their feet to laud their president.
This is nothing new for State of the Union speeches, but given Mr Trump went out of his way to extend “an open hand” to his political rivals during the address it is noteworthy.
