Weekend race recap with results from Hardrock 100, Devil’s Backbone 50, Dances With Dirt: Devils Lake and the Golden Gate Races

Hardrock 100 – Silverton, Colorado

Ashland, Oregon’s Hal Koerner won the Hardrock 100 Mile that started Friday and ended Saturday, in the third-fastest time in course history. The two-time Western States 100 champion won his first Hardrock in 24:50, just ahead of Colorado’s Joe Grant, who ran the fourth-fastest time in course history with a 25:06. Dakota Jones, of Durango, Colorado – last year’s runner-up – was third in 25:45.

Meanwhile, Darcy Africa of Boulder, Colorado, got an elusive win at Hardrock after multiple-time defending champion Diana Finkel dropped out. Africa finished 11th overall in 29:09, well ahead of runner-up Rhonda Claridge, of Telluride, Colorado, who finished 20th overall in 32:43. Darla Askew, of Bend, Oregon, finished third (27th overall) in 33:52.

Devil’s Backbone – Bozeman, Montana

Missoula, Montana’s Aaron Derry won the Devil’s Backbone 50 Mile in Bozeman, Montana, Friday in 10:43, outpacing runner-up Chris Mottola, of Sarasota, Florida. Mottola broke up a sweep by Montanans in the men’s race with a time of 10:54. Tristan Scott, of Whitefish, Montana, finished third in 11:40.

In the women’s race, Marta Fisher, of Forest Grove, Oregon, placed first in 13:01, just ahead of Mount Shasta, California’s Tina Ure, who finished second in 13:04. Fisher and Ure finished seventh and eighth overall. Erika Holland, of Dillon, Montana, finished third in 14:24, good for 14th overall.

Dances With Dirt: Devil’s Lake – Baraboo, Wisconsin

Adam McRoberts won the Dances With Dirt (DWD) Devil’s Lake 50 Mile Saturday in 8:54:22, just ahead of runner-up Christopher Goetzmn, who finished about a minute behind in 8:55:48. John Kiser finished third among men and fourth overall in 9:10:03. Women’s 50-mile champ Alisha Damrow, edged him out for third overall, crossing the line in 9:05:57. Damrow’s nearest competitor was Lori Kirsch, who finished 18th overall in 10:46:44 to claim runner-up honors. Jennifer Rolfing finished third (21st overall) in 10:46:44.

In the 50K, Kevin Alldredge won comfortably in 3:43:29, well ahead of runner-up Michael Borst, who finished in 4:07:07. Jake Hegge finished third in 4:09:49. In the women’s race, Brit Wood finished 23rd overall to claim the top spot in 5:22:16. Runner-up Erin Seffrood finished 32nd overall in 5:39:11 and Kara Carlson finished third in 5:55:01, good for 45th overall.

Golden Gate Races – Golden Gate National Recreation Area, California

San Francisco’s Amanda Silber claimed a new course record en route to winning the Golden Gate 50K in 5:30:52 – good for 10th overall. She was followed closely by Lisa Hughey, of Livermore, California, who finished second (11th overall) in 5:32:25. Brenda Blin, of Napa, California, finished third (13th overall) in 5:44:23.

In the men’s 50K, Rich Conder, of Suisun City, California, won overall in 4:40:39, well ahead of runner up Paul Bonnett, of Scottsdale, Arizona, who clocked a 4:51:25. Kermit Cuff, of Mountain View, California, finished third in 4:52:36.

Course records were also set in the men’s 30K by (Jeremy Johnson, Sunnyvale, California, 2:23:22); men’s half marathon (Alexander Gaber, San Francisco, 1:34:15); women’s half marathon (Mikelle Stephenson, Herriman, Utah, 1:48:29); and women’s 5-mile race (Silje Wilson, Hamar, Norway, 38:29).
