Hey guys, I just got back from the NXT Live Event at the Riverside Municipal Auditorium in Riverside, California. The venue was about 75% full, but was very vocal from start to finish. Enjoy this edition of The Champs Report.
Match #1
Tyler Breeze vs Wesley Blake w/Steve Cutler and Jaxson Ryker
No Fandango in sight for this one. Blake was playing to the crowd for a portion of the early going. Tyler kept having to deal with Ryker and Cutler getting involved. Tyler nails Blake with the Beauty Shot, but Ryker gets on the apron to distract referee Drake Wuertz. Cutler pulls Blake out of the ring and lays down in his place. A little Twin Magic, despite not being twins. Tyler is unaware and Cutler gets Prince Pretty with an inside cradle 1-2-Kickout. Drake realizes that Cutler is in the ring, instead of Blake. Drake argues with Cutler, Cutler turns around and eats a Breeze Superkick. Blake attempts a double axe handle off the top rope, but also eats a Superkick…1-2-3.
Winner: Tyler Breeze
The Forgotten Sons are furious
Bronson Reed appears on the tron and basically puts himself over as “Thicc”
Match #2
Cameron Grimes vs Isaiah “Swerve” Scott
This was a fun contrast of styles. Cameron brought the hard hitting, ground and pound offense. While Swerve put on an Aerial display. This was a solid back and forth match with neither Superstar giving an inch. Match went a good 10 minutes or so. Eventually, Swerve rolls up Grimes, but Grimes reverses it and has a hand full of tights 1-2-3.
Winner: Cameron Grimes
Swerve is yelling at the ref that his tights were held
Match #3
Mia Yim vs Dakota Kai
Mia Yim got the hometown pop. She’s billed from Fontana, California. About a 20+ minute drive from Riverside. (Trivia: I was actually born in Fontana). They picked up where they left off Wednesday night on NXT TV with Yim attacked Kai relentlessly. The match eventually spilled to the outside and the ref ended up counting to 10 before either woman could get back to the ring.
Winner: Double Countout
Mia is trying to get an explanation from the ref, but this distraction allow Dakota to attack Mia from behind. Mia eventually gets the upper hand and takes out the woman who took her out of the War Games Match.
Match #4
Kona Reeves vs Bronson Reed
Kona Reeves cut a very basic heel promo that everyone in California is a phony. We all paid money to see the Finest, even those in the cheap seats..blah blah blah. Not much to talk about here. Bronson wins with a Splash off the top rope 1-2-3.
Winner: Bronson Reed
Match #5
Killian Dain vs Pete Dunne
The Bruiserweight got the biggest pop of the night (so far). The crowd didn’t really care about Killian. This was a pretty fun match to watch. Killian spent the early part of the match just overpowering the former United Kingdom Champion. Pete eventually regains control and indulges in joint manipulation. Killian recovers and fights back. Killian has Dunne in a Fireman’s Carry Position, but Pete slips out and hits the Bitter End 1-2-3.
Winner: Pete Dunne

Match #6
Lio Rush vs Angel Garza (c) for the NXT Cruiserweight Championship
This was the match of the night and if you have seen their previous 2 title matches on TV, you know why. This was Garza’s first match as Cruiserweight Champion after winning it just 24 hours prior to this show. Rush was very determined to get his title back. Lio stopped early in the match to grab a mic “Angel, your new fiance is cute, let me know if she ever needs a “Rush”.” This made Angel furious. They hit all of their spots that they have hit in the past. Angel rips his pants off, throws it to Lio, Lio catches them, but eats a Superkick in the process.Wing Clipper by Garza 1-2-3.
Winner: And Still NXT Cruiserweight Champion: Angel Garza
Match #7
Shayna Baszler and Io Shirai vs Candice LeRae and Rhea Ripley
Candice got the Riverside Hometown billing and Pop that goes with it. The NXT Women’s Champion wanted nothing to do with Rhea, who will challenge her for her title this Wednesday night. This was a fun tag team match that was mostly worked by Candice and Io. Rhea hits Io with the Riptide and Candice follows up with a Moonsault from the 2nd rope 1-2-3
Winners: Rhea Ripley and Candice LeRae
Main Event
Adam Cole and Kyle O’Reilly vs Keith Lee and Matt Riddle
This was an awesome main event. Most House Show Tag Team main events are pretty basic, but this was not one of those matches. A lot of “Bask in his glory” chants. This was a TV quality main event match. All 4 men were incredibly over when it come to crowd reaction. There was a ref bump, this allowed Cole to low blow Riddle and O’Reilly to low blow Lee. The Undisputed Era is standing tall……Crowd Explodes! It’s Finn Balor! The #1 contender to the NXT Championship! Running Dropkick to Cole. Sling Blade to O’Reilly. Balor then hits the Coup De Gras on Kyle, but then Riddle hits Finn with a Ripcord Knee. Riddle then hits a Ripcord Knee on O’Reilly, followed up by a Jackhammer by Keith Lee. 1-2-3
Winners: Matt Riddle and Keith Lee
Awesome way to close out the show
