WWE decided to have Asuka relinquish the NXT Women’s Championship at the latest set of TV tapings, and she’s heading to the main roster as soon as she recovers from her injury.
As previously mentioned, Asuka will be back in action in two months, and the next NXT Takeover show isn’t until November, so she could’ve held onto to her title and just stayed inactive until the next Takeover show, where she could’ve dropped the title to Ember Moon in a rematch.
But, WWE decided to go in a different direction, and in this week’s edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer explained why WWE decided to have Asuka relinquish her title, as opposed to having her drop it at the next Takeover show in November.
“Asuka has vacated the women’s title after suffering a broken collarbone. The decision was made to move her up to the main roster when the injury heals in about two months rather than have her lose the title in NXT, that way they can keep the undefeated strike gimmick going.”
