Former WCW President Eric Bischoff recently talked about the infamous 1996 curtain call in Madison Square Garden. Longtime pro wrestling fans know that the curtain call was the night when The Kliq broke kayfabe and celebrated in the middle of the ring.

Shawn Michaels, Triple H, Scott Hall, and Kevin Nash indeed changed the business during that moment. Many wrestlers were furious over the incident and it became one of the most controversial moments in the history of the industry.

Hall and Nash were headed to WCW shortly after this moment. It’s’ understandable that many fans have always wondered if Eric Bischoff had any prior knowledge of the curtain call, or if he agreed with it in the first place.

Eric answered both of those questions on his 83 Weeks podcast.

“I didn’t hear from Scott or Kevin. They didn’t call me up and say hey bro, guess what we just did? Oh, you’re gonna love this, or you’re gonna hate this, or whatever. I didn’t hear from them directly, I heard, like everybody else, through the grapevine, that it took place. It didn’t really bother me one way or the other.”

This may or may not come as a surprise to many fans. On one hand, Bischoff was always a rebel and did whatever he wanted to do in the name of getting ratings. But he also had a traditional background in the business from his time in the AWA. So one would believe that Eric would indeed have an opinion on the scandal.

Hall and Nash became The Outsiders in WCW of course and the nWo was born. The faction became one of the biggest and most powerful in all of pro wrestling and it also became the most popular group in WCW. The nWo changed the landscape of WCW and turned the tide for the company, leading them over WWE in the ratings for 83 consecutive weeks.
