On the latest edition of his weekly “Ross Report” podcast, which drops every Tuesday evening at PodcastOne.com, WWE Hall Of Famer Jim Ross spoke about Roman Reigns struggling to establish himself as the new top star in WWE, rumors of a Brock Lesnar vs. Bray Wyatt match at WrestleMania 32 and what he feels WWE should do to improve Braun Strowman’s skills and more. Below are some of the highlights of what “Good Ole’ JR” had to say during the show.
On feeling sorry for Roman Reigns for struggling to get over as the new top star in WWE:
“For me, I wish I didn’t know him as well as I do because I really feel badly [for him]. I know how badly he wants to be where he’s going or trying to be placed. He [has] got a good work ethic. He’s a guy who weighed 320 or 330 pounds, playing college football at Georgia Tech and he [has] worked really diligently to get himself in great shape, so I know there’s a commitment there. I know he’s a good athlete. I think he’s a good citizen, from all I can tell. I think he’s a good choice for elevation and for promotion and advancement, but I just believe that the way he has been booked has not been in his best interest as it has worked out.”
On how he feels WWE could use non-televised live events to help Braun Strowman improve his in-ring skills:
“Here’s a great example of how not having any territories bites you in the ass. Braun Strowman is a guy that would be great to send to a territory to stay six, nine, twelve months, working with somebody specific that had been outlined with the promoter and/or booker of the territory for him to go there and get better. And they don’t have that location, so what I think they should do is book him in a lot of singles matches on the road with somebody that’s solid, like Dolph Ziggler or somebody. That’s the name that popped into my head because he’s a good hand. But he needs reps. He needs time. He needs ring time because he has those intangibles that you have to look at a second time. He [has] got the size and no matter what, size still counts.”
On rumors of a Brock Lesnar vs. Bray Wyatt match at WrestleMania 32 and how WWE will handle the build-up:
“I think they will have a car wreck in essence. I think it will be very physical and I think that they both enjoy that and I just don’t think that it’s necessary for either man to win to come out better. Would it hurt Lesnar to lose to Bray Wyatt? No, but you’re not going to beat anybody with Lesnar that’s not involved in the title picture. Just having Lesnar be the conduit for somebody to use as a stepping stone is not going to happen. It’s always interesting how they build this because you don’t have your babyface there every week, in Lesnar, so it’s going to be interesting to see how they scale this peak, to get me to WrestleMania, which, obviously, has to have something major happen at [WWE] Fastlane. And Fastlane might be the pay-per-view that Wyatt gets heat on Lesnar and take him to WrestleMania. But you know what I mean. It’ll be fun to see how they storyboard this thing on the way out.”
